Bible Journal ("the App") is developed and operated by Matt DiCarlantonio ("we," "us," or "our"). This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App.
Account Information
When you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address (or a private relay address if you choose to hide your email). We also assign you a unique account identifier (User ID) within the App, which is used to associate your journal entries, favourites, and subscription status with your account across sessions and devices. This information is used solely to create and manage your account.
Journal Entries
The text you write in your journal is stored securely on our servers so that your entries are preserved across devices and app reinstalls. Your entries are private and visible only to you.
Scripture Favourites
When you save a scripture passage as a favourite, it is stored on our servers so your favourites are available across devices.
Subscription Information
If you subscribe to Bible Journal, your purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive subscription status and purchase history through RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. RevenueCat also collects a device identifier to track subscription state before and after account sign-in. We do not receive or store your payment details — all billing is handled by Apple.
Usage Data
We track basic usage counts (such as the number of journal entries per day) for the purpose of enforcing rate limits. We do not use third-party analytics services and do not track your behavior across other apps or websites.
We use your information for the following purposes:
To provide the App's core functionality — storing your journal entries, generating scripture-based reflections, and syncing your favourites across devices.
To generate reflections, your journal entry text is sent to OpenAI, a third-party artificial intelligence provider. OpenAI processes the text to produce a pastoral reflection and relevant scripture references. OpenAI's use of this data is governed by their API data usage policy, which states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models. We do not send your name, email, or any other identifying information to OpenAI — only the text of your journal entry.
To manage your subscription status and verify access to the App's features.
To enforce daily usage limits and prevent abuse.
